# Authentication

The DirectIQ API uses API key and API secret to authenticate requests. You can find your API key and API secret on [API Keys](https://app.directiq.com/integrations/apikeys) page.

If you have not registered in DirectIQ yet, you can do it [here](https://app.directiq.com/).

Important! Keep your API key and API secret secure. Do not share them in publicly accessible areas.

Authentication to the DirectIQ API is performed via [HTTP Basic Auth](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_access_authentication). Provide your API key as the basic auth username value, and API secret as a password. You can also authenticate using the header: -H "Authorization Basic ApiKey:ApiSecret as base64".
